Over 100 global spine surgeons gathered in Shanghai to discuss UBD, a Chinese-developed minimally invasive spinal surgery tech reducing incisions to 1 cm.
Nearly 100 international spine surgeons convened in Shanghai for the first global conference on a Chinese-developed spinal endoscopy technology called UBD, which reduces incisions from 20 cm to 1 cm using a dual-channel system that combines air and water for improved visibility and precision.
Developed by Professor He Shisheng’s team at Shanghai East Hospital over a decade, the technique has been used in over 2,000 surgeries in China and is now being taught in training centers in Japan and Thailand.
Experts from multiple countries praised its potential for treating complex spinal conditions with less risk, though they called for more long-term data and international studies.
Future plans include integrating robotics and artificial intelligence for real-time surgical support.
