南オークランド出身のサモア人女性、アローズ・レフォノは、アオテアロアで初めて太平洋に焦点を当てたパーキンソン病支援グループを設立したことで表彰されました。 Aloese Lefono, a Samoan woman from South Auckland, has been honored for founding Aotearoa's first Pacific-focused Parkinson's support group. このグループは,たった3人から始めて現在,食事や言語や信仰を通じて、毎月20人以上の患者や介護者と会っている。 Starting with just three people, the group now has over 20 patients and carers who meet monthly to share experiences and support through food, language, and faith. 2024年度厚生労働ボランティア賞で認定されたルフォノは,パーキンソン病の若い太平洋患者の遺伝子変化を識別する研究を促進した. Lefono, recognized with the 2024 Minister of Health Volunteer Award, has also facilitated research identifying rare genetic changes in young Pacific patients with Parkinson's. 成功したにもかかわらず、彼女は太平洋地域におけるシステム的支援と資源の増進を要請している。 Despite her success, she calls for more systemic support and resources for the Pacific community.
